The Course

Hole by hole

Hole 1

Hole 1

Hole 1

A good starting hole. 1st shot played to the base of the quarry with second shot to green on top of the hill. Yellow marker on left hand side wall indicating 150 yards to centre of green. Be aware that out of bounds runs all the way up the left hand side of this hole. Green is set back approximately 80 yards from top of hill. Marker located at back of green. Green is pretty flat.

Hole 2

Hole 1

Hole 1

First of the Par 3's. All the way up the left-hand side of the hole is out of bounds. Challenging hole which is protected by two bunker green side and two bunkers to the right of the green. Needs to be a straight drive to the green. Anything right can cause problems. Green runs left to right

Hole 3

Hole 3

Hole 3

Easiest hole on the course, being stroke index 18. The green can be reached with your drive on a wind assisted day, so please make sure the green is clear before driving off. There is rough on both sides of the fairway, and a drive slight to the right is recommended. A bunker is situated in driving range on the left side of the fairway and the green is protected by green side bunkers left and right.

Hole 4

Hole 3

Hole 3

Can be a difficult Par 3 under certain circumstances. The green is protected by two bunkers. One to the left and one in front of the green. Green slopes back to front, but if you are long there is a slope at the back of the green that goes down to the pond on the 12th hole

Hole 5

Hole 5

Hole 5

Hole is set on a slight dogleg, but for the big hitters you can go straight. Three bunkers are located across the fairway in normal driving range. Green is protected by a wall on the right-hand side and two bunkers on the left. The green slope back to front and under windy conditions and depending where the hole is located on the green, you need to make sure your put gets up to the hole, otherwise it may end up back at your feet

Hole 6

Hole 5

Hole 5

Green cannot be seen from the tee. On the left-hand side from the back of the third tee all the way to the green is out of bounds. There is a bunker slightly to the right of the fairway within driving range, as is the 12th tee. Green is protected by a bunker to the right and a slight slope to the left, which will take the ball off the green. Green slopes front to back and a long shot will roll through the green

Hole 7

Hole 7

Hole 7

All the way up the left-hand side of the hole is out of bounds where the wall segregates Whitburn from South Shields Golf Club. There is a bunker to the left of the fairway and two to the right, all of which are withing driving range. The green sits on a slight plateau with a ridge running down the middle and is protected by a bunker at the right front.

Hole 8

Hole 7

Hole 7

First of the Par 5 holes & the shortest. This hole can be intimidating as you have to drive over a wall in front of the tee. All the way down the left-hand side of this hole to past the green is out of bounds. There is rough to the left and right side of the fairway and on the right there are 3 copses of trees running down to short of the green. Green is protected by a large bunker on the right and is on two tiers with the back tier being higher. Green slopes front to back on both tiers.

Hole 9

Hole 10

Hole 10

Next of the Par 5’s. Green cannot be seen from the tee. There is rough up both the left and right-hand side of the fairway. Small bunker just to the right of the fairway within driving range of the tee with the 3 copses on the right-hand side also. Fairway is on two tier with target for the green being the Water Tower on Cleadon Hills. Green protected by three bunkers, one on the left and two on the right. The second on right is not visible until you are on the green. Green is two tier.

Hole 10

Hole 10

Hole 10

The last of the Par 5's is the longest. Need a good drive with the target being the marker in the middle of the fairway. Rough to both sides of the fairway. Green is protected at the front by a fairway bunker and the green can be reached in 2 by the big hitters. Green slopes front to back. Beware that over hitting will cause the ball to roll off the back of the green into rough.

Hole 11

Hole 11

Hole 11

Very challenging hole that can be reached in 2. There is a fairway bunkers to the left that is in reach of a drive from the tee. There is other fairway bunker dotted up the fairway to the right side. Green is protected by a bunker to the left front and bunker to the right of the green. Green is pretty flats at the back two thirds but slopes to the front for the remaining one third of the green.

Hole 12

Hole 11

Hole 11

The most difficult hole on the course that required the second shot over the pond. Right-hand side of this fairway is out of bounds and is depicted by a stone wall and at the lower part of the hole, white marker posts. Green can be reached in 2 for the big hitters with the average golfer laying up with the second shot and going for the green with the third shot. Green slopes back to front. Be careful or the ball may roll back into the pond.

Hole 13

Hole 13

Hole 13

Nice little hole with an intimidating water hazard to the left just off the tee. Green is protected by four bunkers. Two pot bunkers protect the front of the green with one each on either side of the green. Heavy rough at the back of the green if you run through. Green slopes back top front.

Hole 14

Hole 13

Hole 13

Over the road to the next Par 3. You may be able just to see the green from the tee. The whole hole (fairway and green) slopes left to right. Heavy rough down the left-hand side of the fairway and out of bounds at the back of the green.

Hole 15

Hole 15

Hole 15

This Par 4 has out of bounds all the way up the left-hand side. There is a pond just short of the green, that under certain weather conditions can be reached with your drive. If played short the pond, the second shot can be very intimidating. Bunker to the left of the green. Green is pretty level. Heavy rough to right and rear of the green.

Hole 16

Hole 15

Hole 15

Another nice little Par 3. You need to be to the left of the green as anything right will be in the rough and there is a green side bunker that would need to be overcome to get on the green. This green is also pretty level. There is a bunker short of the green, slightly to the left.

Hole 17

Hole 17

Hole 17

Challenging Par 4. Aim shot from the tee slightly to the left-hand side of the fairway. Not too far otherwise you will be in the rough. Two fairway bunkers to the left of the fairway and fairway slopes right to left. Rough up the right side. Green is protected by two bunkers. It will be a challenge to stop the second shot on the green with the green on approach being narrow. Anything long will run into the rough at the back of the green and give a difficult 3rd shot. Green slopes right to left.

Hole 18

Hole 17

Hole 17

This hole can be driven in one if you connect with the ball correctly and the weather is in your favour. Second easiest hole on the course. Out of bound all the way up the left and right-hand side and at the rear of the green. The target is either straight for the green or if you are not a long hitter, the bunker to the right of the fairway. This will give an easier shot into the green. Green is protected by a bunker at the front. Green slope rear to front.
