Whitburn Golf Club

Whitburn Golf Club was founded in the Jolly Sailor Whitburn in 1931, land was purchased, Harry Colt and Co commissioned to design the course which was completed  in 1932 with the course opening in 1933,  the course is situated to the east of the Cleadon Hills of South Tyneside, between South Shields and Sunderland on Lizard Lane,

An 18 hole par 70 course of 6013 yards, course offers challenging golf with panoramic views of the North East coastline stretching from County Durham to Northumberland. It overlooks dramatic North Sea cliffs and is a magnificent setting to play golf.

The course infrequently closes due to the fantastic drainage installation and natural limestone base on which the course is built, The course is known for its superb all year round greens with well-kept fairways. A two stage development over

the winters 2023/24 is now complete, these include 31 new bunkers, lengthened holes, subtle design changes all to enhance this stunning course, come along and discover the delights of Whitburn golf course.

The Club is registered under the UK Government's Community Amateur Sports Club Scheme (CASC).

As such the Club is open to all sections of the community and its primary purpose is to promote the playing of golf with a membership and facilities that are open to all without any form of discrimination. We offer a variety of channels to participate such as Flexible or 7 day members and similarly a range of green fee structures including a 'twilight' late afternoon option.

For those people who wish to become a member and are unable to afford to pay more than £520 we will discuss
arrangements with anyone who wishes to join but is on a low income. Applicants wishing to discuss this arrangement are asked to make contact specifically with the Club's Secretary.
